The Boundary 500 Christmas Fund Raiser

Santa Ride for Zoë’s Baby Hospice.

On Saturday 15th December 2007 130 motorcyclists turned up at Thornaby Fire Station for the annual ‘Santa’ ride to raise much needed funds for Zoë’s. To take part in the ride all riders and pillions have to wear a ‘Santa’ suit. The suits were provided by Zoë’s Baby Hospice and were paid for by entry fees. 130 motorcyclists dressed, as Santa’s has to be seen to be believed.

The previous year 28 brave souls turned up but word had got around. We are now getting more organised and this year we had a Police escort and travelled from Thornaby through the centres of Stockton, Middlesbrough and Redcar before finishing Kirkleatham Hall where everyone would be treated to a hot brew and a bacon butty courtesy of Zoë’s Place.

For the run we were led by a Cleveland Fire engine containing Brenda Foster the Fire Authority Chair Person, and at the back an open top car with Rachael and Sue from Zoë’s and behind them a Santa Sleigh playing Christmas Carols.

The ride was fantastic and everywhere we went the public would stop and cheer. To take part riders and pillions had to raise a minimum of £20 sponsorship and whilst all the money is not yet in, judging by the amounts already submitted it will be in excess of £14000. Check out the ride on ‘you tube’

The event will again take place in 2008 and when I have liased with the Police and Councils will post the new date. What is certain is the word is spreading and it looks certain to get even bigger.

Getting dressed by some people was a bit difficult.
A big thank you to all who supported the ride.
