Breathalysers in France
Breathalysers inFrance
From 1st July drivers of all motor vehicles inFrance, including motorcyclists, will be required by law to carry a breathalyser kit onboard when travelling inFrance, including touring
The measure is being introduced so motorists can ‘self-test’ to ensure they’re under the French drink-drive limit of 50mg per 100ml of blood – lower than the UK’s limit of 80mg per 100ml.
Failing to carry the breathalyser could result in a €11 fine (£9-ish).
Single-use breathalyser kits will satisfy the requirement and they cost up to £2 and will be available at ferry and tunnel terminals for crossings toFrance. But the Institute of Advanced Motoring (IAM) is advising all road users travelling in France to have at least two breathalysers at all times, so that if one is used you still have one to produce for the police if you are stopped. Not sure we’d rely on the kits being available at the borders, and there are products available in theUKwhich are approved by the French authorities. Do an online search on ‘breathalysers’ and you’ll get plenty of results.
IAM director Neil Greig said: “The new French rule is a genuine attempt to reduce the number of alcohol related-accidents.France’s lower limit means it’s very easy to be over the limit the morning after as well. As always, the best advice for road users is not to drink and drive at all.”
The new laws won’t be enforced until 1st November 2012, to give motorists time to comply.
A message from the Durham Police Motorcycle Section re the 2011 event – followed by news and information regarding the proposed 2012 event.
Firstly a BIG – THANK YOU – for making our seventh Easter Egg Run the biggest yet.
The weather was perfect and thanks to the five hundred and thirty (530) of you, with internet access, who took the time to pre-register on our website. It made it much easier for ourselves (and hopefully for you) at the start and we will also now be able to keep you informed via email as to ‘What’s Happening in the BikeWise ‘world’ in future.
A fantastic mix of riders on the day, with quite a few new ‘L’ riders joining in the ‘fun’ as well as some nice trike’s.
Some riders put some quite serious mileage in, to get to Durham for the ride and we really appreciate your support.
We’ve raised £982 for the Meningitis Research Foundation which is well up on the £780 raised last year and is a testament to the generosity of YOU – the bikers involved quite apart from the hundreds of Easter Eggs handed in, which we will distribute in the coming week.
In addition, it was fantastic to see so many people ‘camped out’ at the side of the road to cheer and wave to riders on many with deck chairs in place, clearly set up to enjoy the spectacle! In addition the Union jack flags were in evidence no doubt fuelled by the impending Royal wedding but it all added to the party atmosphere.
It’s great that the Easter Egg Run is becoming a social event not only for the motorcycle community, but also for the people of County Durham and Darlington who come out in force to cheer us on our way.
We were joined at HQ by as many as we could accommodate and riders were given a short road safety presentation by Sgt Iain Rodgers of the Durham Police Motorcycle Section, who invited riders to sign up to BikeWise Training and Durham Advanced Motorcyclists to enhance their riding skills.
The Easter Egg Run is organised by the BikeWise team, but we couldn’t do it without the support of the Cleveland Bike Section, Durham Advanced Motorcyclists, Durham County Council (particularly Donald Waller), Darlington based stunt rider Dave Coates, all the volunteers who help prepare police HQ and serve the teas and coffees, Tesco in Durham; who donated eggs and games and of course our own Chief Constable Jon Stoddart and the executive team of Durham Constabulary who have always supported the aims of BikeWise.
Please keep checking the website for photo’s and video’s of the event – we are working ‘feverishly in the background to get these uploaded onto the internet but it will take time and we cannot go any faster than our bandwidth allows !!
But the biggest thank you is to those of you who took part; your generosity is beyond doubt and without you none of this would happen, so once again – thank you all you all for your support and look forward to seeing you at the BikeWise Easter Egg Run on on Sunday 8th April 2012.
who run Hadrian V-Twin Tours and Rentals http://www.hadrianhdtours.co.uk/ have been supporters of the Boundary Group over the years. John has been to see me and handed over two bottles of ‘Jack Daniels’. John and Dot had intended to be at the Boundary New Year party but cannot now attend. It had been intended to have a quiz at the New Year Party but with everything else we do the logistics of sorting out the winners would have been too time consuming.John has set two questions.

With the new GSX-R1000 set for UK customer launch on Saturday 11th February, UK dealers are already taking deposits for the flagship GSX-R that has had major revisions for 2012, offering heightened performance and a reduction in weight to make it the best GSX-R1000 to date.
Suzuki GB´s Paul de Lusignan announced the pricing, commenting, “With UK dealers set to showcase the new GSX-R1000 nationwide on 11th February, we´re delighted to announce the recommended retail price too. Once again we are indebted to Marty for arranged and providing, ‘The First on Scene First Aid’ course which will take place on Sunday 18th March 2012, starting at 9am and finish around 4pm.
These courses have been run over the last three years and those who have attended will tell you that not only is it a first class course but a real good laugh as well. Marty assures me that he has a new set of jokes.
The First on scene First Aid Course was designed by the Boundary and Marty and is active and practical in nature. Students will receive ‘class-room tuition’ but will spend a significant proportion of their time in the open, dressed in their motorcycle clothing dealing with a variety of incidents they may come across whilst out and about on their motorcycles.
Not only does the course deal with Basic Life Skills but looks at practical problems/solutions in making a ‘scene safe’.
The course will be held in the Community engagement building attached to Stranton fire station in Stockton Street, Hartlepool.
The building is a large blue porta-cabin style within the fire station with access from the front off Stockton street next to the station appliance bays; right hand side as you look at the station; and access from the station yard off Clark street.
There is no parking on site for cars inside the station yard, bikes will be allowed in. There is parking in Clark street and four parking bays near the access door at the front of the building one being a disabled bay; this can be used as we will have the building to ourselves.
Please do not go to the station for information or access Marty will be there from 0830. If you come in the station yard on foot, walk straight towards the blue building and come in the side door, not the one near the cars.
If you come into the yard on a bike, park as close to the rear of the fire engine next to the blue building. If you come to the front the first door up the ramp will be open come in and ring the bell.
The cost of the course is £15 . There will be tea/coffee and biscuits available but you will be required to bring their lunch with them.
It is better if people come on bikes with their gear on for obvious reasons. If people have to come by car please bring you motorcycle riding gear including helmet with you.
The course will be to HSE standards and accredited. The course is classed as an Emergency first aid certificate.
There are twelve places available and its on a first come first served basis. Add your names to the thread on the forum at;

THIS COURSE IN NOW FULL, IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO BE PLACED ON THE RESERVE LIST PLEASE PM OR E-MAIL KAREN OR BRIAN
