Meeting at Sizzlers 9.15am for a 10am start. (full tanks please) Sizzlers is located on the westbound carriage of the A66 near to the Sadberge turn-off. If you are travelling along the A66 from Darlington to get to Sizzlers you will have to go to the Long Newton interchange and join the westbound carriageway there. Will be travelling around the Darlington bypass and taking the A67 to Barnard Castle. Should be getting into Barny about 10.30am. Will be going down to the bridge. Over the bridge and on the B6277 towards Corthersone and onto the outskirts of Middleton-in-Teesdale where we will be turning left onto the B6276 and on towards Brough past selset reservoir. Into Brough and under the A66 turning right into Brough Castle car park and the ice cream parlour. From there down to Kirby Stephan and picking up the B6259 towards the junction with the A684. Follow the A684 towards Leyburn before picking up the A6108 to Brymor Ice Cream Parlour. From there back home via Bedale and Northallerton. About 140 miles tops.

We are delighted to announce that the Boundary 500 Motorcycle group have become Patrons of our special hospice!
The group has tirelessly fundraised for Zoe’s Place for many years now, and their dedication and support has been invaluable.
The announcment was made at Kirkleatham Hall on Saturday the 18th of February when the group presented Mark Guidery, Chief Executive of Zoe’s Place with a cheque for £22,501.39 which was raised from the groups annual Santa Motorbike ride.
In December more than 100 bikers donned Santa suits and delighted the crowds young and old as they drove through Teesside in a spectacularly colourful cavalcade from Thornaby through to their final destination of Kirkleatham Hall. The riders all raised sponsorship which resulted in the fabulous donation which will be a huge help to the hospice.

Not content with that, Mark Guidery the Chief Executive of Zoe’s Baby Hospice announced that The Boundary 500 Motorcycle Group are to be made Patrons of the Hospice. Again incredible news and is testimount to everyone’s endeavours over the last five and half years.

A message from the Durham Police Motorcycle Section re the 2011 event – followed by news and information regarding the proposed 2012 event.

Firstly a BIG – THANK YOU – for making our seventh Easter Egg Run the biggest yet.
The weather was perfect and thanks to the five hundred and thirty (530) of you, with internet access, who took the time to pre-register on our website.  It made it much easier for ourselves (and hopefully for you) at the start and we will also now be able to keep you informed via email as to ‘What’s Happening in the BikeWise ‘world’ in future.
A fantastic mix of riders on the day, with quite a few new ‘L’ riders joining in the ‘fun’ as well as some nice trike’s.
Some riders put some quite serious mileage in, to get to Durham for the ride and we really appreciate your support.
We’ve raised £982 for the Meningitis Research Foundation which is well up on the £780 raised last year and is a testament to the generosity of YOU – the bikers involved quite apart from the hundreds of Easter Eggs handed in, which we will distribute in the coming week.
In addition, it was fantastic to see so many people ‘camped out’ at the side of the road to cheer and wave to riders on many with deck chairs in place, clearly set up to enjoy the spectacle! In addition the Union jack flags were in evidence no doubt fuelled by the impending Royal wedding but it all added to the party atmosphere.
It’s great that the Easter Egg Run is becoming a social event not only for the motorcycle community, but also for the people of County Durham and Darlington who come out in force to cheer us on our way.
We were joined at HQ by as many as we could accommodate and riders were given a short road safety presentation by Sgt Iain Rodgers of the Durham Police Motorcycle Section, who invited riders to sign up to BikeWise Training and Durham Advanced Motorcyclists to enhance their riding skills.
The Easter Egg Run is organised by the BikeWise team, but we couldn’t do it without the support of the Cleveland Bike Section, Durham Advanced Motorcyclists, Durham County Council (particularly Donald Waller), Darlington based stunt rider Dave Coates, all the volunteers who help prepare police HQ and serve the teas and coffees, Tesco in Durham; who donated eggs and games and of course our own Chief Constable Jon Stoddart and the executive team of Durham Constabulary who have always supported the aims of BikeWise.
Please keep checking the website for photo’s and video’s of the event – we are working ‘feverishly in the background to get these uploaded onto the internet but it will take time and we cannot go any faster than our bandwidth allows !!
But the biggest thank you is to those of you who took part; your generosity is beyond doubt and without you none of this would happen, so once again – thank you all you all for your support and look forward to seeing you at the BikeWise Easter Egg Run on on Sunday 8th April 2012.

The Air Ambulance Service is forced to meet rising fuel prices year on year including VAT. The Air Ambulance Service have saved successive governments millions and millions of pounds funded by charitable donations given by the general public to run what has proven to be an essential service. Whilst the Lifeboat Service has been exempt from VAT on fuel costs since 1977, a similar privilege has not been afforded to the Air Ambulance Service; We call on the government to have an urgent review of this situation and in doing so We call on the government to return in the form of grants to Air Ambulance Service providers all the future VAT which the Treasury collects from them so that the Air Ambulance Service is in practice exempt from paying VAT in the same way as the Lifeboat Service.
